PURPOSE:To provide a thermal recording material having excellent thermal response and excellent storage stability and hardly generating background fog. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal recording material obtained by providing a thermal color forming layer containing a leuco dye colorless or light-colored at room temp. and an org. acidic substance reacting with the leuco dye at the time of heating to develop a color on a support, 4-(m-tolyloxymethyl)biphenyl or 4-(o-methoxyphenoxymethyl)biphenyl is added to the thermal color forming layer.
