An agent for the control of cereal diseases which are transmitted by seeds, esp. Helminthosporium granineum on barley contains a maleic acid imide deriv of formula (I) (where X = H or Br; R = H or Me). USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are able to control the most important diseases of cereals which are transmitted in the seeds, without damaging the seeds or effecting germination (I), even in relatively low concns. are effective against Helminthosporium granineum or barley, a disease which is usually difficult to control. (I) are also effective against fusarium nivale, Tilletia tritici and Ustilago arciae. Suitable amts. for use are 1-80 (esp. 40-60) g/dt seeds.
