<p>A water reaction synthesis using polyoxyethylene diol, a diisocyanate and dibutyltin bis lauryl mercaptide produces a thermoplastic polyurethane-urea linear polymer with surface resistivity of 10<6>-10<11> ohm/sq. Thermoplastic and/or elastomeric antistatic compositions containing the polymer and other melt processable polymers and/or filler exhibit long. term antistatic protection. Antistatic protection can be increased when the polymer is complexed with a metal salt, for example lithium chloride, or lithium acetate. The composition is useful in the manufacture of antistatic floor coverings and textile elements such as cots and aprons. The polyurethane-urea polymer comprises the reaction product of 30 to 95 pbw of polyethylene oxide diol, 5 to 70 pbw of an aliphatic diisocyanate and 0.1 to 2000 pbw of water, per 100 pbw of the die and diisocyanate. The diisocyanate may be methylene bis (4-cyclohexylisocyanate), 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate or tetramethylxylylene diisocyanate. The weight average molecular weight of the polymer may be at least 30,000.</p> |
