PURPOSE:To obtain a long-life lead storage battery with less reduction of the pressing degree of elements by using a glass mat obtained by pressing glass fibers of a specific size and an apparent density of more than a value when pressed under a specific pressure. CONSTITUTION:An element consisting of glass mats composed of glass fibers 10mum or more in diameter, having an apparaent density of 0.18g/cm<3> or more when pressed under a pressure of 20kg/dm<2>, is pressed to form a storage battery. In this case, 1% or less a binder, e.g., starch, gelatin, a synthetic resin, etc., is used in the glass mats. Thus, a long-life lead storage battery in which the active substance of the electrode plate is less fallen can be obtained because of the use of the glass mats whose thickness is less reduced when dipped in electrolyte and those pressing degree is thus less lowered. |
