A physiologically active agent for agricultural use comprises, as the active ingredient, a mixture of 2piperidone and an N-acyl lactam compound represented by the general formula: (wherein n is 1 or 2). This agent promotes the growth of plant roots, helps balance the microbial flora in the soil, and assures normal soil environment over long periods.
