摘要 <p>An electronic appliance, such as a battery-powered portable computer or word processor, includes a component (47) driven by power supplied from the battery (13), a menu screen for setting a desired period of battery operation, and a power supply controller (37) for detecting the remaining charge in the battery (13) to control power supplied to the component (47) on the basis of the set period and the remaining charge. When a user sets a desired period of operation to the menu screen, the power supply controller (37) calculates the power consumption for driving the electronic appliance for the set period of operation on the basis of the detected charge in the battery (13) and the set period of operation. The power supply controller (37) automatically controls the electric power supplied from the battery (13) to the component (47) so that the actual power consumption is equal to the calculated one. Since the power supply controller (37) automatically controls the consumed power only by the manual setting of a period of operation time, the operation factor of the apparatus can be improved and can exhibit maximum performance within the predetermined time.</p>
