PURPOSE:To make the actual reproduction time of individual pieces of music equal when an introductory scanning reproduction operation is executed by means of a disk recording and reproducing apparatus used to reproduce an optical disk on which a plurality of musical data whose compressibility is different are recorded. CONSTITUTION:A musical data from a magnetooptical disk 2 is stored in a memory 22; it is expanded and read out; compressibility information is read out from, e.g. a TOC on the magnetooptical disk 2; the reproduction time from the magnetooptical disk 2 of individual pieces of music is controlled according to the compressibility information. Thereby, it is possible to realize an introductory scanning operation in which the actual reproduction time of the individual pieces of music becomes equal. Alternatively, the musical data from the magnetooptical disk 2 is stored in the memory 22; it is extended and read out; the compressibility information is read out from, e.g. the TOC on the magnetooptical disk 2; a reproduced data amount from the memory of the individual pieces of music is controlled according to the compressibility information. Thereby, it is possible to realize the introductory scanning operation in which the actual reproduction time of the individual pieces of music becomes equal.
