PURPOSE:To suppress the power consumption to irreducible necessary consumption by preheating a heat radiation tube to be changed and turned ON next except a discharge tube which is current ON. CONSTITUTION:An illumination monitor part 15 finds illumination data on the discharge tube 1 which currently illuminates, an illumination comparison part 16 compares the illumination data with display data to replace next to find preheating data on the display tube 1 to be changed and turned ON except the discharge tube 1 which currently illuminates, and a preheating control part 17 applies the electric power from a preheating power source 18 to only the display tube 1 corresponding to the preheating data. When the next display data replaces the current data, the discharge tube 1 corresponding to the display data illuminates and other discharge tubes 1 are turned OFF. At this time, the discharge tube 1 which is turned ON in an extinction state is preheated, so the discharge tube starts illuminating excellently and the display becomes stable. Even in the display state, a display tube l corresponding to display data to replace next except the discharge tube 1 which currently illuminate is preheated. |
