The light with a flameproof encapsulated casing (11) includes a covering part (12) fixed onto the light casing (11), which is itself sealed by means of an enclosing wall (13) in order to meet the requirement of a flameproof structure. The electrical components (14,15), held in a carrier part (16), are mounted inside the encapsulated casing (11) together with voluminous packing or filling parts (16,21,26,27). The volume of the packing parts is calculated so that a free residual volume (22,28) is provided between the plastics casing (11) and the outer surfaces of the packing parts and electrical components (14, 15). The residual volume is less than 3000 cm. cubed and the light-transparent region of the covering part has a surface area of less than 8000 sq.cm.
