The invention relates to a safety lighting system for bicycles, characterized in that the lighting is of intermittent character and makes use of so-called LEDs (light-emitting diodes) of a colour which is significant or at least different, preferably for each emission direction. A further characteristic relates to the fact that use is made of an electric generator consisting of at least one permanent magnet fixed to the wheel and of a stator coil, with housing, fixed to the bicycle frame. According to a further characteristic, the said magnetic system is preferably housed in a plastic reflector to be fixed to the spokes.
