The drive comprises a mechanical transmission for both travel directions from the engine via a clutch to a multi-speed gearbox. A hydrostatic transmission comprises a driven pump, bypassing the clutch and supplying a hydraulic motor. The gearbox output shaft can be driven at different speeds via the clutch, or the hydraulic motor. One of the gears, forming the different speed stages (I-VI) in the gearbox (4), is permanently coupled to the input shaft (7) of the latter, and forms the input gear for the drive from the hydraulic motor (16) to the gearbox.
