<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a low loss at the time of fusion splicing of optical fibers without generating the chipping, braking, etc., of the optical fibers and without allowing the end faces to be diagonally polished and to entirely eliminate flaws in a coating removing stage. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber constituted by successively coating the outer periphery of the optical fiber 3 with a UV curing resin layer 2 and a nylon resin layer 1 is held in a fiber clamp 4 and the end face of the optical fiber 3 is polished together with the nylon resin layer 1 and the UV curing resin layer 2 in the state of projecting the optical fiber from the end face of the fiber clamp 4. The optical fiber is then successively immersed into a chemical from the end of the polished surface to the point of the length necessary for fusion splicing, by which the nylon resin layer 1 and the UV curing resin layer 2 are successively removed.</p> |
