The data coder is able to send, to the outside, data corresponding to detected positions. It comprises means (110) for memory storage of error or of self-diagnostic information, means (120) for sending out the said data in response to a data output request signal, coming from the outside, and means for continuously monitoring the state of the said data output request signal. It includes means 140 able to reset to zero the said internal error or self-diagnostic information following the detection of a predetermined condition of the state of the said data output request signal.
