<p>The invention relates to the control of microorganisms in bulk quantities of water and to a composition of matter comprising in combination a halogen complex and an oxidizing agent. The microorganisms are controlled by establishing a dynamic equilibrium between an iodophor and free iodine, allowing the free iodine to interact with the microorganisms and oxidizing any iodide formed to iodine. By using the method of the invention a marked unexpected reduction in the TBC count has been shown.</p> |
