The input occurs in terms of symbols by writing in on the writing window (S) only one symbol. The manually inscribed pattern (M) is interposed through pattern recognition. The respective symbol-characterising pattern (M) is inscribed around a reference point (R) in the writing window (S). The pattern (M) is interpreted with regard to a combination of angles through which the pattern runs when it is inscribed around the reference point (R). - The pattern (M) comprises the whole or parts of the inscribable alpha-numerical symbol (a) or a predetermined stenographical-type character, each of which is interpreted in the feed-in arrangement as the respective symbol. The writing window (S) is divided into a number of fields starting from a reference point (R), each field being arranged to monitor the symbol passage and thereby emit a signal.
