<p>PURPOSE:To save electric power consumption during supply of a current to an electromagnetic coil by setting, at a specific value, axial force acting between an inclined surface of an inclining piece of a hub member and an inclined surface of a phase variable groove of an advancing plate. CONSTITUTION:An advancing plate 5 is provided at the outer peripheral surface thereof with a phase variable groove 5b inclined in the axial direction. A hub member 4 is connected onto a camshaft 2 side, and has an inclining piece 4a engaged with the advancing plate 5. An electromagnetic coil 6 is adapted to relatively slidably move the inclining piece 4a of the hub member 4 and the inclined surface of the phase variable groove 5b of the advancing plate 5 so as to change a rotating phase of a crankshaft and the cam shaft. A control unit 20 reduces axial force acted between the inclining piece 4a of the hub member 4 and the inclined surface of the phase variable groove 5b of the advancing plate 5 in a position where the rotating phase between the crankshaft and the camshaft is changed.</p> |
