The invention concerns a roller tappet (1) with hydraulic valve-play compensation. The tappet comprises a cylindrical housing (2) in which an inner housing (9) is fitted. Disposed concentrically inside the inner housing (9) is a play-compensation element (11) connected to an oil reservoir (12). The tappet further comprises a support roller (5) which is acted on by a cam (3) on a cam shaft, a piston (10) fitted concentrically in the inner housing (9) so that it can move along the longitudinal axis (8) of the inner housing, and at least one non-return valve (17). The invention calls for the support roller (5) to be mounted in the piston (10) and at least partly spatially integrated in the piston (10). This design enables the height of the tappet to be reduced.
