The transmission for a vehicle with a transversely mounted engine (1) comprises an automatic gear box (21), a differential drive (30) for the rear wheels (13) and a transfer drive for delivering torque to the front wheels (12). The gear box has a main shaft (23) which extends across the vehicle the differential is placed behind the main shaft and the transfer drive in front of the main shaft.Torque from the main shaft is provided to a differential housing of the rear drive via two power paths, and via an input shaft of the transfer drive.
