The present invention pertains to synthetic ribonucleases wherein the synthetic ribonucleases are represented by formula (I), wherein A is selected from the group consisting of glycine, beta-alanine, histidine, N-acetyl-histidine, imidazole acetyl, gamma-aminobutyric acid, ornithine, arginine, homoarginine, and lysine, B is selected from the group consisting of proline, glycine, alanine, hydroxyproline, threonine, and serine, C is selected from the group consisting of histidine, N-methylhistidine, and N-3-(3-pyridinyl)-alanine, D is selected from the group consisting of lysine, ornithine, cysteine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine, alanine, threonine, and serine, X is a functional group attached to the acyl group of D and is selected from the group consisting of unmodified and backbone-modified oligonucleotide antisense carriers comprising from about 5 to about 50 nucleotides, NRR', and OR'', wherein R, R', and R'' may be the same or different and are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and branched and unbranched lower-alkyl groups, each lower-alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and Y is a functional group attached to the side chain group of D and is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and an intercalator group. The present invention also pertains to methods for preparing and using the synthetic ribonucleases. |
