PURPOSE:To improve the encoding efficiency of a motion compensation inter- frame forecast code where the compression rate of redundancy of a TV signal is high by providing means which use specific even and odd fields to perform forecast respectively. CONSTITUTION:A TV signal picked up by a TV camera 1 is converted by an A/D converter 2 to obtain an encoded signal. That is, only signals of even fields are stored in a field memory 21 and are switched to signals of odd fields, which are not delayed, by a switch 22 switched for each odd/even field to obtain the encoded signal. In the case of odd fields, only odd fields are used to encode the signal; and in the case of even fields, odd fields (d) displayed on an output device later are used also to encode a field (e) to be encoded into a forecast code. Thus, this device improves the forecast efficiency while keeping compatibility to a conventional device where only odd fields are used to encode the signal. |
