Two identical units are mounted one behind the other with their stepped pistons (4) actuated by a common balance beam (15) rocking about a control plunger (16) fixed to a hollow cylinder (17), which protrudes into a sleeve (19) surrounding the electromagnet plunger (29). Under lighter loading the coil (31) carries more current, retracting the armature (30) so that ball-bearings (28) can move inwards and the pistons (4) travel further to make contact with the adjustment spring (24) when the brake fluid pressure is built up. ADVANTAGE - Only relatively weak electromagnet with low voltage and small coil is required.
