The present invention relates to a safety insert for a motor vehicle steering wheel, made up from a rim (hoop) (6) manufactured from various metallic materials, including spokes (arms) (7) for supporting this rim, these being connected to a central hub (4) for connection to the steering column. This insert is characterised in that it is made up of a piece (1) of rigid polyurethane or some other similar material moulded over the anchoring part of the spokes (7), this piece (1) exhibiting, viewed in plan, the form of a substantially rectangular body provided with projections and hollows suitable for the element on which it is placed. <IMAGE>
