The invention concerns a design for the bottom of a metallurgical vessel, the bottom consisting of a refractory lining and a gas-dispersion device (3a, 3b), located in the lining (9), with at least one gas outlet (7) for scavenging gas. Embedded in the lining near the gas outlet (7) is at least one rod-shaped body (20) consisting of a material whose thermal-expansion characteristics are different from those of the lining.
