The demodulator circuit for separating a digital complex colour image signal into a brightness signal and a carrier colour signal to separate the carrier colour signal into two colour difference signals comprises a first A/D converter (4), a second A/D converter (5), a burst extraction circuit (6) for extracting a colour burst signal from a digital colour signal, a first phase arithmetic unit (7) for detecting a phase difference (&phgr;) between the colour burst signal and a sampling signal from a sampling clock stage (2), a second phase arithmetic unit (8) for detecting a phase difference between the sub-carrier signal and the sampling signal, two multipliers (9,10), two low pass filters (13,14), a ROM (12) for generating a coefficient value for phase correction, and a matrix circuit (15) for outputting a demodulated colour signal according to the correction coefficient.
