The invention relates to a silencer for a combustion engine intended to reduce acoustic emissions from the exhaust gases which comprises a reactive double-chamber element in which the combustion gases undergo a first expansion (pressure reduction) and a sound-proofing absorbing duct. According to the invention, the absorbing duct (8) is built into the casing (2) encompassing the double chamber (4 and 5). More precisely, the absorbing duct (8) passes through the first chamber (4) in order to emerge in the second chamber (5). The invention is of concern to the constructors and users of sound-proofing equipment. <IMAGE>
