The pneumatically actuated position motor has a main cylinder (10) with a first hollow piston (12) and a first pressure chamber (14), and a second hollow piston (28) in a section of the main cylinder adjacent the cylinder cover (30). By means of various stroke lengths and control of the main piston (20), the first and second hollow pistons can be moved to seven thrust positions. The first and second hollow pistons are sealed by sealing rings (46, 48, 50), as is the main piston (52, 54). USE/ADVANTAGE - Compact telescopic cylinder for a needle gripping mechanism. The pressure chambers and the retraction pressure chambers are permanently joined.
