PURPOSE:To prevent the direction from being erroneously set at the initial stage by determining the direction of a gyro sensor after a vehicle has run a predetermined straight distance subsequent to the start of navigation. CONSTITUTION:This onboard navigation apparatus inputs a preliminarily-set running plan course into a CPU 4 through a ROM 6 or a memory card 9, and guides the vehicle based on the course. As the vehicle runs, a gyro sensor 1 and a speed sensor 2 detect the change of the advancing direction and the running distance, and input to the CPU 4 through an A/D converter 3. When a navigation start is ordered from an operating part 8, a turning direction or that the vehicle goes out of the set road, etc., is indicated at 7 based on the signals of the sensors 1, 2 and the plan course. Although the CPU 4 makes the sensor 1 agreed with the map data in direction as the navigation is started, it does not fix the sensor 1 promptly, but sets the sensor 1 in the direction of the plan course only when it is detected from the signal of the sensor 2 that the vehicle continuously runs a straight course of a predetermined distance or longer. |
