<p>The wheel heads hitherto known, comprising a joint housing swivelling with the steering wheel and a wheel hub containing a reduction gearing, are of relatively broad construction in an axial direction so that it is not possible to protect the wheel head by incorporating it in the contour even of relatively narrow tyres. In order to facilitate this it is proposed to create a wheel head, the axial length of which is much less than that of the wheel heads hitherto known. To this end the hub carrier (5) forms the internal gear of the reduction gearing (6) and the wheel hub (9) is supported on the hub carrier (5) by way of a single anti-friction bearing (15) designed in the form of a four-point bearing. The sphere of application of the invention extends to utility vehicles with driven steering axles.</p> |
