PURPOSE:To reduce the thermal gradient in the formation and/or erasure of an image, to form the image of excellent resolving power and to reduce the lowering of image density even when the image is repeatedly formed and erased by providing preheating equipment before the formation and/or erasure of the image in a thermal recording apparatus for a reversible thermal recording material. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal recording apparatus performing the formation and/or erasure of an image on a recording object using a reversible thermal recording material, preheating equipment is provided before the formation/ erasure of the image. In the preheating equipment, as preheating methods, there are a method wherein a card 3 being the recording object is brought into contact with a thermostatic heat source such as a hot roller or a hot plate, a method irradiating the card 3 with an electromagnetic waves or sound waves such as light or microwaves, a method heating a fluid such as air or water to apply the same to the card 3 and a method bringing the card 3 into contact with a thermal head in the same way as the writing on the card 3. |
