The invention relates to a gear box allowing automatic engagement of second and third gear of a car depending on the operating speed and on the load on the engine. It is made up of a torque converter 6, two centrifugal clutches for the second and third gears with the flyweights 14 and 16 and the springs 13 and reduction gears including 3 pinions 18, 19 and 20 in constant mesh with the pinions 37, 38 and 39 mounted on the lay shaft 34 via freewheel mechanisms and a control mechanism made up of a lever 21, the slide 26 and the fork 27. Engagement of first gear takes place with the displacement of the pinion 28 to the left using the lever 21. Engagement of second and third gear takes place with the aid of the centrifugal clutches and of the freewheel mechanisms.
