Polyfunctional siloxyalkyl esters (I) of polycarboxylic acids are produced by reaction of (A) triorganosilyl esters of formula A-(CO-O-SiR3)n with (B) epoxide cpds. contg. at least one epoxide gp./mol.; (where A = residue of n-basic carboxylic acid with mol. wt. 90-5000; R = 1-4C alkyl or Ph; n = at least 2). Also claimed are the esters (I). Specifically R = Me; pref. (A) are trimethylsilyl esters of dicarboxylic acids with mol. wt. 90-286. (A) are prepd. by reaction of the corresp. monochlorosilanes or disilazanes with suitable di-acids (e.g. oxalic, adipic, sebacic, phthalic, maleic acid, dimer fatty acid, COOH-functional polyesters etc.), opt. in presence of a catalyst e.g. saccharin, as described e.g. in Synthesis 1985, 817-845; (B) is, e.g. butylene oxide, styrene oxide, phenyl glycidyl ether, dicyclopentadiene dioxide, Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether etc.; pref., reaction is carried out at 60-130 deg.C in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (II) as catalyst.
