PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of toner stains at both ends of an image carrying member and to efficiently form images over the entire area of a transfer material by setting the width of a destaticizing needle larger than the width of a transfer electrifier and bringing both ends of the destaticizing needle near to a photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:If a toner image of an electrostatically negative toner image is transferred to a transfer material 4 by the positive discharge of a transfer electrifier 6, a positive charge which is the reverse polarity of the electrifying polarity of the image carrying member 10 is directly imparted to the region of the image carrying member on the side outer than the width of the transfer material 4 of the image carrying member in this transfer process. The working width of the destaticizing needle 8 is, thereupon, set wider than the electrifying width of the transfer electrifier 6 and both ends 8b of the destaticizing needle 8 are brought closer to the image carrying member side than the central part 8a to intensify the destaticizing power of both ends 8b, by which the potentials at both ends of the image carrying member are completely removed and the generation of the toner contamination at both ends is prevented. |
