PURPOSE:To provide a battery positive electrode of a large discharge capacity and good discharge characteristics, and a manufacturing method thereof. CONSTITUTION:A battery positive electrode comprising a substrate 5 having a number of fine protrusions 51 in the surface, and a positive electrode active material layer 52 consisting of a crystalline or non-crystalline chalcogen compound, and having the positive electrode active material layer formed at least covering forward end parts of the protrusions to a trunk part is used.
