Belt tension control in motor vehicle - adjusts tension dependent upon charging condition of battery, or demand from belt-driven appliances

The control system is esp. for use in IC engines of motor vehicles. The belt tension is regulated by a tension roller, the contact pressure of which is adjusted via an actuator element. The charging condition of the battery and/or the switch-on condition of the appliances (3',4') driven by the belt (2), are monitored. The belt tension is adjusted dependant upon the monitored conditions, via an actuator element (7). The control device has a monitoring unit, to supply a signal to the actuating member. This changes the belt tension, when a preset reference value, or switch-on condition, are reached. The tension roller (5) is held on a pivot lever (6). The lever is pretensioned by a spring, and its other end engages on the actuating member. USE/ADVANTAGE - Belt tensioner for vehicle IC engine ensures that full tension is present only when required.
