Process for mfr. of a filtration medium consisting of porous carrier material in which is entrapped activated carbon, comprises a) distibuting a layer of activated carbon as an aqueous, binder free, mixture, on to a layer of fibrous web; b) covering the activated carbon layer with a further fibrous web layer; c) needle-bonding the web/carbon sandwich and, d) removing the water from the activated carbon layer by drying. USE/ADVANTAGE - Filter medium with high absorption efficiency, unimpeded by adsorption of any binder adhesive to the activated carbon useful for large scale purificn. of smoke gases, etc. to remove sulphur, halogen, dioxine and furan compounds and heavy metals, etc.
