Refrigeration with air as refrigeration medium and cooling agent - having mostly isothermic compression and adiabatic approximately isentropic expansion using screw compressor for compression with water injection

The compression takes place in one stage in the screw compressor (6), and the compressed air is then diretly cooled in a scrubber (10), with a counter flow of the cold or cooling water. Following the re-cooling the dripping water is separated from the air in a fine drop separator, and is adiabatically expanded across a fast running turbine (8), which is coupled with the screw compressor (6). The snow resulting with the expansion of the undried air is separated by the snow separator (12), and this dried air is led to the cold room (11) and is sucked from the screw compressor across the air filter (14). The process with indirect heat exchange is realised with the help of changeover recuperators, for low temp. applications, with the freezing out of dampness in alternation with the oeprating regime. USE/ADVANTAGE - Cold stores, meat packing plants, fish processing plants also further industrial application. Competes with cold vapour processes in tyupical applications, but offers environmental advantages and as open process ensures a completely air supply free of air.
