In an automatic gear change system operating in response to a combination of speed and torque, the torque is measured by pressure generated in an hydraulic pump system, having a permanent leak, driven by relative rotation of the members of an hydraulic clutch. An engine 1 drives a change speed gear 4 through a clutch 2 connectable to a gear-box shaft 3. The clutch 2 is engaged by hydraulic pressure acting on pistons 26, the pressure being generated by a pump 23 driven by the relative rotation of the clutch members. A leak 28 is provided to ensure slight slip in the clutch and constant pressure generation by the pump. A torque speed integrator 5 is fed with hydraulic pressure from the leak 28 and from speedresponsive means 7, the torque responsive means moving a roller 55, Fig. 3, co-operating with a cam slot in a slide 54, and the speed responsive means moving a slide 51 through link 52 in a direction perpendicular to the movement of the slide 54, These movements are transmitted to a ratchet mechanism 56 which rotates an hydraulic valve 66 through differential gearing to change gear. The clutch 2 is released for gear change by an hydraulic control 32. Manual over-ride of the clutch and gear change is provided by lever 34.
