The invention relatres to an internal-combustion engine with two-step charge air cooling. By charge air cooling, not only can the performance be increased, but it also offers the possibility of controlling the composition of the exhaust gas in problematical operating phases. According to the invention, it is proposed to influence the cooling performance of the fan 14 by sensors 17, 18 in such a way that, in the case of a low load state, the cooling performance of the second heat exchanger 12 is reduced and/or a flap 13 is controlled by a sensor 16 in such a way that the second heat exchanger 12 is bypassed. By a reduction in the cooling performance of the second heat exchanger 12 and/or by the switching-over of the flap 13, the temperature of the charge air in the low load state can be raised, so that the consequently increasing combustion chamber temperature improves the combustion, whereby blue smoke is avoided and unpleasant combustion noises caused by the ignition delay are suppressed. In addition, the power requirement of the fan 14 is reduced by speed regulation. <IMAGE> |
