A procedure for analysing paper in order to locate faults of the paper machine's machine elements, at least one quality parameter of the paper being detected from the paper web as a function of the web's length coordinate, and a quality parameter signal characterizing the quality parameter being formed, which is mathematically analysed for determination of regularly recurring errors in the quality parameter which have a given frequency.
