A polymeriv contact filtering material is manufactured by (1) packing carbon-based porous absorbent (bio-coal) into the filtering material made of a synthetic resin (polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene etc.) and (2) forming slime layer composed of microbes to the surface of the packed filtering material. The porous absorbent is obtained by acid-treating and pulverizing coal coke. The organic waste water is efficiently treated by using the contact filtering material in combination with an activated sludge process and a slime method.
