<p>The display system includes a device for memorizing the moment when each competitor (Ci) passes a sensor (Dk), a device (12) for ranking the competitors (Cj) as they pass each sensor (Dk), in order to provide a time-based ranking of the competitors for each sensor (Dk), and a processing device (20) which operates when a competitor (Ci) passes a sensor (Dk): to determine the instantaeous ranking of competitor (Ci) at sensor (Dk) by comparing his time with the times of a group of previously ranked competitors (Cj); to calculate the time intervals R and A between the time of competitor (Ci) and times of the competitors (Cj) ranked immediately above and below him; to convert each time interval R and A into a distance by means of a conversion function f; and to display, in a predetermined display area (28), a symbol (30) representing competitor (Ci) and symbols (32, 34) representing each of the competitors (Cj) ranked immediately above and below said competitor (Ci), while spacing said symbols (32, 34) apart according to said calculated distances.</p> |
