PURPOSE:To easily produce the subject compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for photographic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc., in high yield while suppressing the by-production of sodium cyanate by dimerizing acetonitrile with an alkali metal compound. CONSTITUTION:The subject compound is produced by dimerizing acetonitrile with at least one kind of alkali metal compound selected from alkali metal hydride and alkali metal amide. The dimerization reaction is carried out in an aprotic solvent (e.g. diethyl ether) at 0-200 deg.C for 0.5-10hr by using >=3 times mol of acetonitrile based on the alkali metal compound. The alkali metal compound is e.g. sodium hydride and lithium amide. |
