The solenoid has a housing (1) of insulating material inside of which a yoke cylinder carries an excitation coil located within a former (4). At the centre of the yoke an armature assembly is moved axially when the coil is energised and in so doing causes a spool (26) to be displaced within a valve stage (23). The connections for the coil are in the form of pins (29,30) that are set into extensions of the coil former. The ends of the coil wires (27) are set into a compound (8) to prevent movement. ADVANTAGE - Uses few components, reducing cost of manufacture.
