NEW MATERIAL:A diphenylamine derivative of formula I [Y is CH2OR (R is acyl), CH2OH or COOH], and a compound of formula II. EXAMPLE:o-(N-Nitroso-2,6-dichloroanilino)phenethyl acetate. USE:A synthetic intermediate for an anti-inflammatory agent capable of synthesizing a compound of formula III readily by hydrolysis, etc. PROCESS:A compound of formula IV is reacted with a compound of formula V to give a compound of formula II, which is then nitrosated with sodium nitrite, etc. to afford the compound of formula I (Y is CH2OR). The resultant compound is then hydrolyzed to form the compound of formula I (Y is CH2OH), which is oxidized with a Jones reagent, etc. to give the compound of formula I (Y is COOH). |
