This device comprises two half-covers (10, 11) which are mounted longitudinally on either side of the boom (2) in a sliding manner in rails (20) and held stretched upwards by ropes (4), each half-cover (10, 11) comprising longitudinally a rigidifying lath (12) delimiting a covering part (14, 15) which is not stretched by the ropes (4) and is provided on its edge with a closure means (16).
