The retain comprises a series of parallel grooves (N) featuring alternate wedge-shaped protrusions (K1,K2,K3) extending out from the groove sidewalls (SW1,SW2). The protrusions are at their greatest near the top of the groove and taper away towards the base and may be either of right angled or semi-circular profile. The upper tips of the groove dividing walls are angled to form a sharp ridge that facilitates slotting the fibre optical cable into the groove, while the taper or the sidewall protrusions secures the cable within the grooves. Longitudinal movement along the groove is prevented by the stiffness of the optical fibre acting against the alternate groove sidewall protrusions. A fixing section (B) with a mounting hole (O) enables unit to be secured in a splicing cassette, while cam (NO) on the underside prevent the unit from rotating when secured in the cassette. ADVANTAGE - Groove protrusions simplify securing and removal of the fibre-optic cable from unit.
