Rotation position indicator for electronic circuit board components - uses same component to compare measuring field and reference field

The position indicator uses an optical sensor (S) coupled to an image evaluation system (Ba), for detecting the rotary position of the electronic component (B) being handled by a component mounting head (Bk), to control rotation through 90, 180 or 270 degrees into the correct position. The actual position is determined by comparing a marking field (MF) carried by the component (B) with a reference field (RE) carried by the same component (B). ADVANTAGE - Unaffected by aging and drift.
