PURPOSE:To obtain the most essential feature so that even a mail sent back labeled 'addressee unknown' is made to an object of processing in an automatically partitioning machine of the mail. CONSTITUTION:An address and a residence are recognized in a residence recognizing part 4b on the basis of a white-black picture of a mail which is sent from a photoelectric conversion part 4a. Simultaneously, a red stamp of return is detected in a return detecting part 4c on the basis of a red picture sent from the photoelectric conversion part 4a. When this red stamp is not detected, a controlling part 31 partitions and gathers the mail according to the recognized result in the residence recognizing part 4b. A mail processor is constituted so that, when the red stamp of return is detected, the recognized result in the residence recognizing part 4b is destructed and the mail is gathered in a leased pocket. |
