Light coloured petroleum binders free from asphaltenes are prepared by blending one or more highly cross-linked or high molecular weight polymers with an aromatic extract of petroleum origin obtained by liquid-liquid extraction of a distillate with a cut point in the range 400 DEG C to 600 DEG C. The binders can be used for the production of coloured aggregates for highway construction or urban use.
