PURPOSE:To improve the phosphoric acid holding force by adding fine particles of graphite fluoride in addition to silicon carbide particle and polytetrafluoroethylene to form a matrix. CONSTITUTION:A matrix 1a of a phosphoric acid type fuel cell nipped between an air electrode 2 and a fuel electrode 3 to hold a phosphoric acid electrolyte is formed by adding graphite fluoride fine particle 6 in addition to silicon carbide particle 4 and polytetrafluoroethylene 5. According to this constitution, as the pore diameter formed in the matrix 1a becomes smaller, the phosphoric acid holding force of the matrix can be enhanced, and a reduction in output voltage of the cell caused by the movement of phosphoric acid from the matrix to a gas diffusing electrode in accordance with the lapse of the operating time can be suppressed. The graphite fluoride fine particle 6 preferably has an average particle size less than 0.1mum. |
